ENERTRAG UK was established in early 2001 by ENERTRAG AG (Nechlin, Germany) and by PROKON Nord Energiesysteme GmbH (Leer, Germany) each holding 50% of the Company equity. This new company is now developing renewable energy projects within the UK, using a wealth of experience gained from its parents over the past 15 years in Europe. ENERTRAG UK has its headquarters in Diss, Norfolk. Its core business being the development of on and off shore wind energy projects in the UK.
The core business of PROKON Nord is the development and operation of regenerative energy systems. In the past four years PROKON Nord has been a leader in research on offshore wind farms and was finally awarded with the first consent to develop an offshore wind farm in Germany’s exclusive economic zone. This underlines PROKON Nord’s role as the leading offshore wind farm developer in Germany. Besides developing wind energy projects, PROKON Nord has become a leader in the field of biomass. Their first biomass power station with approx 20MW nominal power, (capital value 46,000,000 €) was connected to the grid in June 2003. By the end of 2002 PROKON Nord had realised projects with a capital expenditure in excess of 120,000,000€.
In 2001 PROKON Nord founded together with three other major energy businesses, Offshore Wind Technologie GmbH (OWT). This engineering company has completed two years of research with a special focus on the development of offshore foundations. It also co-ordinates the expertise of its shareholders, which lie mainly in the areas of logistics, general contracting, cable laying, and telecommunications. OWT now offers services and solutions ranging from the preliminary design to turnkey development, having already been involved in many of the recent offshore developments in Germany.
ENERTRAG AG was formed to promote the development specifically of wind energy projects throughout Europe. Over 100 employees work currently within this organisation, expertise includes turnkey wind energy projects, capital brokerage, prospectus preparation, and full operating services for the installed wind farms. The Company has 185 installed wind energy converters with an annual output of approx 500 million kilowatt hours. This has made ENERTRAG AG one of the largest German wind energy developers. In addition to the national market, ENERTRAG AG is also promoting the development of wind farms in many other countries abroad, often being the first in this particular field. In 2002 the first wind farm in France went into operation, this was a milestone project for ENERTRAG and established them as a leading developer in the French market.
