- A consultation evening was held on 18th March at Weeting Village Hall to discuss the current status of the proposals. Details of the surveys to date and further assessments to be conducted were provided. A newsletter is available to download from this page outlining the project.
- Since receipt of the scoping opinion from Breckland District Council and initial consultations regarding the site, the full EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) is now underway. Ecological and ornithological studies have been running over several months, in order to encompass the variation in seasons, and are still ongoing. Studies on all other issues, including Geology & Hydrology, Landscape & Visual Character, Cultural Heritage, Traffic & Access and Noise have now started and assessments will be compiled in the ES within due course.
-
As part of the Environmental Impact Assessment, Norfolk Wildlife Services are conducting ecological surveys on site. These will primarily investigate the birds and bats using the site, as well as other species such as newts, hares and badgers. Surveys for bats include monitoring at height to determine species using the area and general movement patterns. Currently on site we have specialist equipment on a short mast to record the bat calls. The mast is a temporary structure, and under permitted development will only be on site for a maximum of 28 days. The findings of all ecological surveys will become available within the Environmental Statement.
-
Planning permission has been granted by Breckland District Council Development Control Committee for a meteorological mast to measure and record wind speed and direction on site for a two year period. The temporary mast will be 70m high and 150mm steel tubular construction. It will be located on arable farmland in the Southern half of the site, approximately at the location of turbine 3, and is due to be erected within the next few months.
-
A scoping opinion has been requested frrom Breckland District Council and this will provide details of what is to be included within the Environmental Impact Assessment. Once a scoping opinion has been received, work on the EIA will begin and this is expected to take around 1 year. The scoping request is available to download on the right hand side of this page.
The Site
The proposed wind farm lies on land to the North of the village of Weeting, near Brandon, in Norfolk. It would comprise 6 turbines each with a maximum output of 3MW and the initial proposed turbine layout can be seen on the map below

The exact turbine locations can not be confirmed until all the reports that form part of the Environmental Impact Assessment have been considered.
The Turbines:
Each turbine will be a maximum of 100m high to the hub and the rotors will have a maximum diameter of 90m, giving an overall height to tip of 145m. The diameter of the tower at the base will be 4m.
The land around the turbine base will be flat as the foundation would be buried. This means the land around the turbine can continue to be farmed once construction is complete.
Vehicle access routes will be provided between the turbines for construction and maintenance; these will follow existing tracks and field boundaries where possible.
The Planning Process:
As part of the planning process, Enertrag UK will provide opportunity for the public to demonstrate their views trough public consultation. A consultation document will be made available. A general information and FAQ document is currently available to download from this page. If you have any queries or comments, please use the comments form available on this website.
Enertrag UK will hold public consultation sessions in the area to give members of the community a chance to discuss the proposals with members of the Enertrag UK team. Dates of these sessions will be published in due course.
As part of the planning process, Enertrag UK will produce an Environmental Statement (ES) to be submitted with the planning application. This will detail findings of the Environmental Impact Assessment and covers issues such as ecology, ornithology, geology, landscape, cultural heritage, noise and traffic and access. Enertrag UK will work very closely with experts in these fields in order to produce the ES. Once the ES is complete, Enertrag UK will then submit a planning application to the local planning authority, Breckland District Council.
