 Current Progress

  • As East Lindsey District Council failed to reach a verdict on the scheme within the allotted timeframe, Enertrag UK have now lodged an appeal for the non-determination of the planning application. The date of the appeal is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be in the autumn of 2010.
  • Enertrag UK have submitted a planning application to East Lindsey District Council. This application was validated on 17th July 2009, and a decision is expected within 16 weeks.  For an overview of the Baumber Environmental Impact Assessment, a Non - Technical Summary can be downloaded from this page. If you would like to contact the council regarding this application (Reference: S/011/01270/09) please see the ‘Latest News’ page on our website for details.

  • The second public consultation exhibition will be held on Tuesday 18th November from 3pm-8pm at Baumber Village Hall. Please drop in and take a look at the information boards.

  • The archaeological field work and background noise monitoring surveys have now been completed.

  • The first public consultation exhibition was held on 14th May 2008 from 3-8pm in Baumber Village Hall.

  • The surveys for the Environmental Impact Assessment are underway.

  • The scoping request has been submitted to East Lindsey District Council.

Planning Application

The Baumber wind farm planning application was registered on 17th July 2009. The planning process requires a decision to be made within 16 weeks from registration; bringing the target date for Baumber to 6th November 2009. Alternatively within this period an extension of time in which to consider the application further may be requested by East Lindsey District Council. Developments with the planning application can be followed on our website or via the Environment and Planning section on East Lindsey District Council’s website: http://www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/environment/.

The Planning Application encompasses a number of documents that have been compiled over a project planning and Environmental Impact Assessment period of around two years. Extensive studies into a number of environmental factors have been carried out, the findings of which are summarised in the Environmental Statement (ES) which accompanies the Application. Also there are a number of drawings and supplementary reports provided with the Planning Application. These are available for public viewing from the Council offices, or an electronic copy of the complete ES can be requested by contacting Enertrag UK.

Scoping Request

Enertrag UK have submitted a scoping request to East Lindsey District Council for an Environmental Impact Assessment to construct a wind farm in Baumber, Lincolnshire.

The Site

The proposed wind farm on land to the South West of the village of Baumber would comprise eight turbines each with a maximum output of 2MW.  The proposed site layout is shown below.

The exact turbine locations can not be confirmed until all the reports that form part of the Environmental Impact Assessment have been considered.

The Turbines

Each turbine will be a maximum of 85m high to the hub and the rotors will be a maximum of 90m diameter. The diameter of the tower at the base will be approximately 4m.  The siting of the turbines is based on the following:

  • The turbines would produce electricity to be fed back into the national grid via underground cables.
  • Enertrag UK site all turbines a minimum of 700m from any residential property, this is not a requirement of any planning legislation but a figure that Enertrag have found reasonable to counteract any issues with noise or shadow flicker.
  • The turbines have to be sited a set distance from each other as recommended by the manufacturer to enable each turbine to generate the maximum amount of electricity.
  • Vehicle access routes will be provided between the turbines for construction and maintenance; these will follow the existing tracks and field boundaries where possible.
  • The final arrangement for the foundation will be confirmed once the turbine manufacture is determined.
  • The land around the turbine will be flat as the foundation would be buried. Once construction is complete, the land can continue to be farmed right up to the turbine tower.

The planning application will describe the turbines in generic form.  The reason for this is that the technologies are constantly moving forward and at the time of placing the contract for the turbines Enertrag would want to take advantage of the turbine that best suits the site.

Energy Production

A typical wind turbine unit will provide around 4.7 million units of electricity per year.  This is enough to:

  • Provide electricity for around 1,000 homes per year
  • Boil enough water for 170 million cups of tea
  • Run a computer for 1,620 years
  • Save 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere, equivalent to taking 1,333 cars of the road.

Planning Process

As part of the planning process, Enertrag UK will provide opportunity for the public to demonstrate their views and get involved with the public consultation.  A consultation document will be available during this time.  If you have any comments or queries please use the comments form available on this website.

Enertrag UK will also hold public consultation sessions in the area to give members of the community a chance to meet the team and have their questions answered.  Dates of these sessions will be published in due course.

A copy of the scoping request can be accessed from ‘downloads’ at the top of this page or is available here.

As part of the planning process, Enertrag UK are required to produce an Environmental Statement (ES).  The process of producing this is known as an Environmental Impact Assessment and will cover the effects and impacts of the development including ornithology, ecology, archaeology, noise, geology and landscape.  Enertrag UK will work very closely with experts in these fields in order to produce the ES.   Once the ES is complete, Enertrag UK will submit a planning application to the local authority.
