Planning Process

Onshore wind turbines can cause electro-magnetic interference (EMI) in two ways:

  • Physical interference ‘scattering’ signals can lead to a phenomenon called ‘ghosting’ on television screens.

  • Electrical interference, caused by signals generated within wind turbines, can cause interference to communications equipment.

The main problem has been physical interference with television reception. The effects caused by electrical interference are considered to be negligible due to the standards to which wind turbine construction has to comply. If interference is experienced due to the wind farm, Enertrag UK is committed to rectifying this issue.
